H2 2026 Update: Top Fraud Trends

Fraud in the Age of Continuous Trust

Fraud is no longer just an operational challenge. It's becoming a strategic business risk.

Research undertaken by TransUnion shows that organisations estimate they're losing an average of 6.5% of annual revenue to fraud, and nearly six in 10 business leaders worry fraud is evolving faster than their ability to stop it.

Powered by Artificial Intelligence, automation and connected criminal networks, today's fraudsters can build credible identities, imitate trusted communications and target established customer relationships at unprecedented speed and scale.

The H2 2026 Transunion Global Fraud Trends Report  reveals how fraud is moving beyond identity theft and account takeover to exploit trust itself. Combining findings from TransUnion's global intelligence network with business and consumer research conducted across multiple markets, the report aims to provide a view of fraud trends across identity, digital interactions, communications and account activity.

Insights include:

  • 61% of business leaders rank fraud among their highest-impact business risks.
  • 73% expect scam and authorised fraud to increase over the next two years.
  • 65% expect synthetic identity fraud to grow.
  • 81% of suspected digital fraud now occurs after a customer relationship has already been established.
