Raising awareness about the impact of fraud
Launched by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) in 2000, International Fraud Awareness Week is an annual, global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of fraud and promoting anti-fraud education across businesses, governments and communities.
In the UK, fraud is the most prevalent crime, accounting for over 40% of all reported incidents in England and Wales.¹ Tackling fraud requires a collective effort; educating individuals and organisations on the risks, red flags and preventative measures is essential to reducing its impact.

At TransUnion®, we’re proud to be an ambassador for International Fraud Awareness Week because combatting fraud is essential to our mission. As a global information and insights company, our purpose is to make trust possible in modern commerce by providing a reliable, actionable view of consumers. This empowers businesses and consumers to transact with confidence and achieve great things.
Our expertise in fraud prevention enables organisations to better understand identity, help detect anomalies and reduce risk. We know fraudsters often target consumers through scams and misuse of personal identifiable information (PII) — which not only has an adverse effect on consumers, but can also lead to significant downstream impacts for businesses.
That’s why this week, we’re committed to equipping businesses and consumers with the knowledge and tools they need to stay vigilant — helping stop fraud before it reaches the application stage.
To mark International Fraud Awareness Week, TransUnion UK’s Fraud Teams have been engaging directly with the public in Leeds. Gathering insights, sharing practical advice and offering tips to help individuals stay safe online.
We’ve also created a helpful blog for consumers — Top 10 Fraud Prevention Tips for Staying Safe With Your Device. This brief practical guide was designed to raise awareness and encourage proactive protection against digital threats.
Internally at our Leeds office, we’re hosting a series of events throughout the week to ensure our colleagues are armed with the latest fraud education — helping them safeguard themselves and our business.
Our UK ID & Fraud Sales Director Glyn Cowlishaw took up the mic to gather the insights first-hand. He was also on hand to provide participants with practical tips to help keep their device safe in public and answer fraud related questions.
