A Notice of Correction is a short statement that you can request to have added to your Credit Report.  You can use this statement to explain why the information in your report is recorded the way it is.

If information is inaccurate in your report, you should raise a Dispute so that it can be reviewed, and where appropriate corrected. However, a Notice of Correction enables you to provide further explanation about data on your Credit Report that could otherwise affect a lending decision about you. E.g. Not on the Electoral Register, Missed Payments.

When you add a notice of correction to your Credit Report the automated process of organisations checking your Credit Report is interrupted and organisations should then check your Credit Report and read your statement so that it can be considered when assessing the credit application in your name.

A Notice of Correction must be 200 words or less and should not reference any 3rd party or seek to blame any individual or organisation. It is a short factual statement, and should not be offensive, frivolous, scandalous otherwise it may be unsuitable for publication.

Credit Reference Agencies use Electoral Register information to help verify a person is who they say they are, and live where they say they do. Being registered on the Electoral Register is a key component of the address element of the verification process.

Individuals who are not able to be on the Electoral Register may find it difficult to pass the verification process. By adding a notice of correction which is supported with evidence of residency at your address the automated processing is interrupted, and the information provided can then be used to help with verification.
