TransUnion UK sells GMAP to management team

01 May 2019

TransUnion has confirmed the sale of its GMAP business in the UK – which specialises in spatial analysis, retail location modelling and forecasting – to its current management team, led by co-directors John Chesworth and Matt Cawcutt.

Satrajit “Satty” Saha, CEO at TransUnion in the UK commented: “GMAP has been part of our business for almost two decades and we’re really pleased to agree this deal so it can continue to offer its successful consultancy services under the current management.  Whilst no longer part of our core offering, we are confident GMAP will continue to thrive as an independent company and we wish the team every success.”

The buyout presents GMAP with the opportunity to reconnect with its roots, as the business will be moving to the Nexus innovation centre at Leeds University. Prior to joining the group in 2001 the origins of GMAP can be traced back to the same campus in the 1980s.

GMAP director John Chesworth said: “Becoming an independent company again is an exciting opportunity for us. We look forward to building our existing client base as we introduce more retailers to our planning consultancy services to help them maximise their sales and profitability.”

By linking together consumer, local area and industry datasets with cutting-edge modelling expertise and market intelligence software, GMAP provides retailers with an objective view of their markets and retail networks. The management team continues to be committed to providing the same services and investment in the development of innovative analytics.
