Digidentity, working in partnership with Callcredit and Government Digital Services, announce the launch of their Virtual ID service for UK Citizens

11 December 2014

After 2 years of intensive collaboration with the British government and Callcredit, Digidentity is now available to provide a digital identity for British citizens. This will enable the British public to interact with the government online in a secure and simple way, while ensuring and maintaining the privacy of the user. Digidentity provides the Dutch government’s virtual ID ‘DigiD’ and is a member and contributor to various international identity schemes.

Digidentity offers solutions and services to more than 11 million Europeans, with more than 130 million secure online transactions per year between people, organisations and governments. To do this, the company developed services focused on a unique digital identity, where the user and their privacy are key. Digidentity is also a supplier of SSL certificates and qualified digital signatures. Next to that, Digidentity developed in a consortium the Dutch national online ID called DigiD. Digidentity now works for the Dutch and British government.

Marcel Wendt, Founder and CTO of Digidentity: “Protecting a consumer digital identity enables us to create a safer virtual world; if we can trust our online transactions, we gain real benefits from the digital world in terms of speed convenience and security.   I would like to thank the staff of both Government Digital Services and Callcredit, for their can do attitude to working together to get this done.”

Angus Sim, Head of Alliances at Callcredit commented, “The Gov.UK Verify service is an example of what can be achieved when public and private sector partners work together in an open and agile fashion.  Many said it could not be done and will never happen.  Digidentity have leveraged their experience of delivering virtual ID in the Netherlands to offer a great service to both the UK Government and to British citizens.  We are proud to have played an important part in helping Digidentity deliver this ground breaking solution”.

Walter van Benthem, General Manager of Digidentity: “We believe users are right to have high expectations regarding ease of use, security and control over the use of their data.  That is why Digidentity will work with our partners, including our data partner, Callcredit, to continuously improve our service based on the latest technologies, new data sources, evolving mobile apps and biometrics.”
